About Shieldaig Medical Centre
Shieldaig Medical Centre has been opened since November 2011. The Shieldaig Medical Centre has male and female doctors available, and is conveniently located at the Eastern side of the Range Shopping Centre.
Our practice is accepting new patients and is mixed billing.

Dr Andy Mellis
B Med Sci, BMBS, DGM, FRACGP, GAICD
Dr Mellis grew up in the UK and trained at Nottingham University, graduating in 1997. After completing his intern year he travelled to Queensland to work at Mackay Base Hospital for 12 months and whilst there met his now wife Kate, a Toowoomba local.
He returned to the UK to complete his specialist general practice training and subsequently emigrated permanently to Toowoomba with his family in 2005, taking up a full time post at James Neil Medical. He currently works at both James Neil Medical and Shieldiag Medical.
He is committed to keeping quality general practice accessible to all. His special interests are family medicine, holistic chronic disease care and medical education. He is an accredited GP trainer and holds the position of senior lecturer with the UQ school of medicine.
He is an active contributor to the local primary care arena, holding board positions on the Darling Downs West Moreton Primary Health Network and GP Connections. He is also passionate about our local area and holds board positions with METROMAXX and METRO Care Toowoomba, both not for profit community organisations committed to doing what they can to prosper Toowoomba and the surrounding districts.
Dr Ashraf Saleh
MBBS, M NutrSci, BMed Sci, FRACGP, FARGP (Emerg Med)
Dr Ashraf Saleh grew up in Sydney and completed University in 2007.
Dr Ash completed his General Practice Training in 2013 and has previously worked in Toowoomba, Goondiwindi and Oakey. Special interests include diabetes, skin cancer, metabolic/cardiovascular disease, orthopedics, paediatrics, obstetrics and gynaecology and men’s health.

Dr Ash also speaks Arabic.
Dr Margaret Hughes
Dr Hughes grew up in South Africa and graduated from the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg in 1980.
She worked in trauma/emergency medicine, obstetrics and ENT before entering General Practice in 1983.
On emigrating to Australia with her family in 1999, she became a Fellow of the Royal College of Australian GP’s and was awarded a Fellowship of Rural and Remote Medicine.
Dr Hughes was in practice in Gatton until 2013 when she relocated to Toowoomba.
She is interested in all aspects of general practice including child health, women’s health, mental health and care of chronic diseases.
Dr Uma Kumar
MBBS, FRACGP, DRANZCOG
Dr Uma Kumar graduated from university in 1999 and completed her General Practice Training in 2009. Dr Kumar’s previous experience is working in rural practices and aboriginal health centres.
Uma’s special interests are women’s Health, children’s health and mental health. Other interests are training meditation.
Mrs Annie Sendall
Dip of Prac Mgt, MAICD
Annie is the Managing Director of People first health group having been practice manager of James Neil Medical for 13 years.
She believes in people and is passionate about empowering her team to provide the best support they can to patients and clinicians.
She is highly regarded in her field and is an active participant in local health development. She has worked as practice accreditor and also provided consultancy services to local organisations.
